Solar Panel Prices – Don’t Let Them Scare You Off

When people start to consider finding ways to save money on their utility bills they frequently think about installing some solar panels on their roofs. The problem is that when they start looking at prices for pre-made units they get scared off. When it comes to solar panel prices, you’ll be much better off if you do it yourself as opposed to buying one.

The price for a pre-built solar panel can be anywhere from $15,000 up to $30,000 per panel. Obviously that’s well beyond the reach of the vast majority of homeowners (and even if you could swing it, how long would it take you to make that money back by saving money on your electric bills?)

But, and here’s the good news, you can build a panel for your home use for just a few hundred dollars, much more realistic. You don’t need any special skills or tools the only thing you’d need if you wanted to do it yourself is a comprehensive guide you can follow that will walk you through the process in an easy to follow manner (plenty of pictures and maybe even a DVD would be nice too).

Now that you have an idea of the cost you will want to figure out how many panels you’ll need to meet your electrical needs. Most homeowners either can’t afford to build (even though it’s cheap to build it still takes some money and not everyone has extra money) all the panels they’d need to go completely off the grid, or they don’t have enough room for the amount of panels they’d need to get off the grid. Most homeowners will use a few panels that will cut their electric bills but not eliminate them completely.

Many of us would be willing to invest a little time and money if we knew it could save us money, and help the planet, in the long run. Solar panel prices can vary wildly between the do it yourself and the pre-made models and since it’s so inexpensive and easy to DIY why would you pay all that money for the same exact thing?
